SLIGO – Tesla Motors Ireland Limited has submitted planning applications to Sligo County Council for the development of two new electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs in the county, marking a significant potential expansion of the company’s charging network in the North West.

The applications, lodged in the last week, seek permission to install high-power charging facilities at two key locations:

  1. Davis’ Restaurant in Drumcliffe
  2. Yeats County Inn in Curry

Proposed Infrastructure

Both applications detail similar developments aimed at providing ultra-fast charging capabilities for electric vehicle owners. The proposed hubs will consist of:

  • Eight electric vehicle charging bays in each location.
  • The installation of eight Tesla illuminated charging units and associated signage.
  • The placement of Tesla Supercharger power cabinet equipment.
  • The installation of a modular substation to handle the high power demand.
  • Associated site development works, including new surfacing, lighting, and line marking.

Rapid Charging for Regional Travel

Tesla operates the world’s largest global, fast-charging network, and the addition of these Supercharger hubs would dramatically improve charging access in the Sligo area. Superchargers are designed for convenient, high-speed charging, capable of adding up to 275 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes.

The strategic location of the proposed hubs on major routes near local amenities, such as restaurants and inns, aligns with Tesla’s strategy to eliminate “range anxiety” and make long-distance travel in an electric vehicle more convenient across Ireland.

Sligo County Council will now assess the applications, with a decision expected in the coming months.
