DUBLIN — A man has died following a serious road traffic collision that occurred on Dame Street, Dublin, in the early hours of this morning. The incident, which happened at approximately 1:45 am, has led to the closure of a major city thoroughfare as Gardaí and Forensic Collision Investigators attend the scene.

Gardaí have confirmed that the victim’s body was removed from the scene following the tragic incident. As of this morning, Dame Street remains closed between Parliament Street and South Great George’s Street, with local diversions in place. Road users are advised to take alternative routes.

The Dublin fatality marks the second death on the country’s roads in the last 24 hours.

The latest incident follows a fatal single-vehicle collision in Donegal on Wednesday afternoon.

A woman, aged in her 80s, died following the crash on the R262 at Tullynaglaggin at approximately 3:50 pm. A man, also aged in his 80s, was involved and taken to Letterkenny University Hospital to receive treatment for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed the scene of the Donegal collision will be examined by Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the Donegal collision to contact them. Specifically, they are seeking any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm to make this footage available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact:
