Dublin: Three people have tragically died in two separate, serious road traffic collisions that occurred in County Tipperary within a span of 24 hours, prompting Gardaí to launch forensic investigations and appeal for witnesses.

Fatal Incident 1: Clonmel

A motorist in his 30s was killed in a two-car collision on the N24 Frank Drohan Road outside Clonmel in the early hours of this morning.

  • Time & Location: Emergency services were alerted to the scene near the Cahir Road Roundabout at approximately 1:10 am.
  • Victim: The driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead following the crash. His body has been transported to University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
  • Status: No other serious injuries were reported. The N24 remains closed between the Cahir Road Roundabout and the Heywood Road Junction to facilitate an examination by the Garda Forensic Collision Investigation unit. Local diversions are in effect.

Fatal Incident 2: Ballinunty (Yesterday)

This fatality follows a devastating multi-vehicle collision that claimed the lives of two young men yesterday evening in the county.

  • Time & Location: The incident, involving four vehicles, took place shortly before 6:00 pm on a local road at Killeen, Ballinunty, approximately 15km from Thurles.
  • Victims: Two men—one in his early 20s and the other in his late teens, who were travelling in the same vehicle—were pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Injuries: Two women in their 20s, occupants of a second car, were taken by ambulance to Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening. Six other individuals were medically assessed at the scene and did not require hospitalisation.
  • Investigation: The local coroner has been notified, and post-mortem examinations are being arranged. Gardaí have appointed a family liaison officer. The road remains closed for a forensic examination.
