A man arrested as part of an investigation into an alleged petrol bomb attack at a pub in County Sligo has been released without charge, Gardaí have confirmed.
The incident occurred at Connolly’s Pub in Sligo town on Wednesday night, prompting a significant Garda response and the temporary closure of the surrounding area while investigations were carried out.
The man, who is aged in his 70s, was detained by Gardaí in connection with the suspected attack. However, authorities have now confirmed that he has been released without charge following questioning.
Despite the release, the investigation remains active. Gardaí said a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who will review the circumstances of the case and determine whether any further legal action is warranted.
The alleged petrol bomb incident caused concern among local residents and business owners, with emergency services responding to the scene on Wednesday evening. The area around the pub was sealed off for a period on Thursday as Garda technical experts and investigators examined the location.
No details have yet been released regarding the extent of any damage caused during the incident, and Gardaí have not disclosed whether anyone was injured.
Authorities continue to appeal for information as enquiries progress. Investigators are expected to examine witness statements, CCTV footage and forensic evidence gathered from the scene as part of the ongoing probe.
The case remains under investigation, and Gardaí have urged anyone with information that could assist enquiries to come forward.
