Sligo’s Olympic medalist Mona McSharry has claimed a silver medal for Ireland in the women’s 100m breaststroke final at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris on Wednesday evening.

Championship Record Performance

McSharry touched the wall in 1:05.41 to secure second place, finishing just behind Great Britain’s Angharad Evans, who clinched the gold medal with a new championship record of 1:04.87. Italy’s Benedetta Pilato took the bronze medal with a time of 1:05.89.

Return to French Capital Success

The silver victory marks Ireland’s first medal of the week-long continental meet. The triumph comes in the same city where McSharry previously made Irish sporting history by winning Olympic bronze in 2024.

More Events Ahead

McSharry’s campaign in Paris is far from over. The 24-year-old Sligo native will return to the pool later this week to compete in both the 50m and 200m breaststroke events, aiming to add further silverware to Swim Ireland’s tally.
