On the night of July 25, 2024, multiple arson attacks targeted France’s high-speed TGV network, just hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. SNCF reported that these attacks were designed to paralyze the network, specifically affecting the Atlantic, northern, and eastern lines. According to SNCF, the attacks have caused significant damage to their facilities, resulting in the cancellation of many routes and heavy disruptions on the affected lines. In a statement, SNCF urged passengers to postpone their travel plans and avoid train stations during this period​​.

The timing of these attacks is particularly critical, as Paris gears up to host 7,500 athletes and 300,000 spectators for the Olympic Games. The disruptions to the transport network pose a significant challenge to the smooth operation of the event. Special Measures for Olympic Games

To manage the situation, special measures have been put in place. Paris has introduced a digital platform requiring residents and visitors to obtain QR codes for access to certain areas during the Games. This platform is expected to be operational by March 2024, ensuring that safety and security are maintained​.
