MACROOM DISTRICT COURT – A 31-year-old Ballydehob man appeared before Macroom District Court this morning, charged in connection with the theft of cattle valued at over €50,000 during an eight-year period in the West Cork area.
The accused, Colm Dineen of Cappaghmore, Ballydehob, appeared before Judge Joanne Carroll facing five charges related to cattle theft dating from 2017 to 2025, and one charge of burglary.
One specific charge details the theft of 18 cattle—four Limousine Cross, two Aberdeen Angus, and 12 Friesian—with an estimated value of €30,000, taken from Brian Lawlor’s farm at Lakeland, Skibbereen, on November 24th.
Detective Garda Hugh Byrne (Bandon Garda Station) and Detective Garda Martin Bohane (Bantry Garda Station) gave evidence of the accused’s arrest, charge, and caution, stating that Dineen made no reply to any of the charges preferred against him.
Solicitor Flor Murphy informed Judge Carroll that no bail application would be made at this stage. However, he requested that a note be made to the Cork Prison Governor ensuring his client receives appropriate medical and psychiatric attention while in custody.
Judge Carroll subsequently remanded Colm Dineen in custody to appear before Clonakilty District Court on December 16th. The defense indicated that a bail application may be made on that date.
