Teenager Killed in Single-Vehicle Collision in Loughrea, County Galway

A male teenager died early Sunday morning following a single-vehicle crash on the N65 at Moyleen, Loughrea, prompting a Garda appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.


Incident Overview

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 2:20 am on the N65 road. The young man, aged in his late teens, was a passenger in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

Following the incident, authorities transferred his body to Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe, where a post-mortem examination will be scheduled.

Casualties and Medical Response

Three other occupants of the vehicle were involved in the crash:

  • The Driver: Transported to University Hospital Galway (UHG).
  • Two Passengers: Also taken to UHG for medical assessment.
  • Status: Gardaí (Irish police) have confirmed that the injuries sustained by these three individuals are non-life-threatening.

Forensic Investigation

The N65 Loughrea to Ballinasloe road at Moyleen remains closed today to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are currently in place, and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.


Garda Appeal for Information

Investigating officers are appealing to any road users who were travelling on the N65 between 2:00 am and 2:30 am this morning to come forward.

Gardaí are specifically interested in:

  • Witnesses to the collision or the vehicle’s movements prior to the crash.
  • Motorists with dashcam or any other camera footage from the area during that timeframe.
