DUBLIN/BRAZIL – In a significant breakthrough, Brazilian authorities have arrested a man believed to be connected to the disappearance and death of Daniel Aruebose. Daniel was just three years old when he went missing from his home in Donabate, North Co. Dublin, over four years ago.

The arrest took place in Maranhão, Northern Brazil, following an extensive international operation involving the Brazilian Federal Police and An Garda Síochána. While the man was officially detained for being in an “irregular immigration situation,” he is a person of interest in the ongoing homicide investigation into the child’s death.

Background of the Case:

  • The Disappearance: Daniel was last seen alive in 2021 at The Gallery apartments in Donabate.
  • Discovery: His remains were found in September 2024 on waste ground near his home after a search sparked by social welfare payment irregularities.
  • The Investigation: Gardaí recently upgraded the case to a homicide investigation. Earlier this week, a woman in her 20s was arrested and questioned but later released without charge.

Brazilian authorities confirmed that the deportation process is underway, and the man will be returned to Ireland, where Gardaí intend to question him further.
