MAYO – A man and a woman, both in their 30s, have been arrested in County Mayo as part of an ongoing, intelligence-led investigation into criminal activity on the Darkweb.

The arrests were made this morning following planned searches conducted by Gardaí from the Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau (GNCCB) at two residential properties in a rural area of West Mayo.

The two individuals were detained for alleged offences including the unlawful use of a computer and money laundering. They were transported to a local Garda station in Mayo where they are currently being held under questioning.

During the operation, Gardaí seized a significant volume of electronic exhibits which will be subjected to forensic examination by the GNCCB. Additionally, a quantity of suspected cannabis herb was recovered at the scene.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
